software testing & C programming?

I have a non IT degree and I am planning to make software testing course.For that I’m referring ANSI C by E.Balagurusamy.I find the book really good but I must put great effort to go through…I just want know whether a sound knowledge in Programming is really required to take up software testing course?If I had an option to skip ‘C’then i would be more happy and relieved:-)some of my friends (software testers) tell that Programming knowledge is not required for the job and they don’t know that either.To what extent is it true?

I may do the both..I’ve not yet taken up the course yet..to apply for the position as a ”Software Tester” I must be knowing to analyze the code and to test the user interface right?

C programming errors?

okay these are the errors i came across while trying to start up my program.

test.c: 94: ‘c’ undeclared

test.c: 98: ‘u’ undeclared
test.c: 101: warning: unreachable code at beginning of switch statement

If anyone can tell me what these mean, I’ll really appreciate it. I can’t seem to understand it lately.

The C++ standard template library contains a class that can be used to handle strings. String functions that exist in the C library are replaced by member functions of the class. I’m taking an online programming C++ test and i need your help.

since i am using computer from 5 to 6 years.i have good command over computers internet etc. now i want to start to learn programming from basic to advance. i dont have any knowledge of language fundamentals. i have seen VB 2005 i have designed some basic interfaces in it. but later i came to know that i must have good concept of OOPS or C or c++. few told me you cant learn VB2005 without learning vb 6 or Vb .net 2003. if i will start learning that it will take 6 or more months and than VB2005. its not look great for me. i dont want develop hardcore giant and multinetwork applications. i am planning to develop midrange of applications relating to inventory accounts etc. my question is
it is possible to learn directly VB 2005 or i have to learn vb 6 and more. i always wonder how can u lern writing lots of codes betwen the lines. guide me in this more suggetions also.

How to become an expert in C,C++ and Java programming?

I am currently pursuing masters in computer science and though I have a good knowledge about different programming languages , I am not an expert at any of the languages. All I know is basic stuff good enough to clear exams or get a decent “B” grade in classes.
However, since I will graduate in about 3 months, I want to be well prepared for job interviews. It is a known fact that employers usually look for candidates proficient in atleast 3 programming languages. I want to start with the must-know languages namely C,C++ and Java. I am also planning to take up SCJP(Sun certified java certification) and need to start preparing for the same.
Where should I start and what are some good online resources or books to refer to become thorough in java concepts(programming concepts in general)?.I want to start from the scratch and work my way up to become an expert!
