    We’ll send an officer over.

You tell them that police are on their way and you will get them help. Tell them not to do anything to themselves and to wait for the police to come. You ask them where they are calling from and if they have a weapon (so the cops showing up know if the person is holding a gun or knife).

I seriously doubt they’re going to ask you that question since you won’t be trained to handle that situation until after you get the job. BUT first things first, never ever disconnect the line w/ someone who is expressing suicidal tendencies. Always find out if they have a planned method and, if it involves weapons, where those weapons are now. If they request the police to respond, it’s okay to tell them that they are on the way…but if they don’t want the police, you shouldn’t tell them and you should just keep them talking until the police make contact. If they ask for the police I usually end the conversation with something like “That’s Officer Soandso at your door, can you go talk to him for me?”
