if one is on SSI and in five years is eligible for their former spouses social security benefits as they were married over
10 years and she never remarried but he has remarried
1. will he or his new wife’s benefits be lowered if the former spouse files on his social security (she was a full time mother/homemaker much of the marriage by mutual agreement)
2. if the former spouse/homemaker may inherit between 50,000 and 200,000 dollars from an uncle who was left the money. ( He is 66 and in pretty good health)
Will the lady be able to keep the inheritance money if she is on social security and not SSI then?
3. Will they take out taxes prior to getting the inheritance and will her social security (amount of money or food stamps (if eligible) and medical be affected by an inheritance?
Please answer all three questions thanks.
you really should break it into separate questions to get better answers
1. I am not sure, check http://www.ssa.gov. My guess is they would not be.
2. In any circumstance you may keep the inheritance, however you may lose eligibility for SSI. However you should be able to generate 800/mo income from 200K. However with social security you will be able to collect.
3. Unless it is a large estate(over a million) there will not be estate taxes.
